PT-CLAV tablets are a combination of Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate, used primarily to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Composition (per tablet):
Amoxicillin Trihydrate 500 mg – A broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, preventing bacterial growth.
Potassium Clavulanate Diluted IP 125 mg – A beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent bacterial resistance to amoxicillin.
Uses (Indications):
Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, etc.
Used for mixed infections caused by both beta-lactamase producing organisms and others.
Mechanism of Action:
Amoxicillin: Works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death.
Potassium Clavulanate: Inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria, which would otherwise destroy amoxicillin and make the bacteria resistant.
